Statement by Elzbieta (Lisa) Dymkova-Fuchs My art explores universal concepts, such as collective traumas, the
idea of wholeness as opposed to fragmentation, contemporary validity of historical events, and spirituality as factor of social
growth.

Dialectic in nature, fine arts have the potential of facilitating
inner dialogue (which is not the chase of thoughts) that may lead to healing. I am very attached to Joseph Beuys'
idea that an artist, like shaman, can explore collective traumas, as well the healing process. In addition, I relate to spiritual
traditions in art: Byzantine icons and places of worship, those of the Orthodox Church and Polish syncretic Catholicism, as
well Tibetan thankas. Those are symbolic resources from which every individual can learn how to create a space in his or her
own mind a mental sanctuary where the process of listening to the inner dialoque can be undisturbed. (For long time I was
in direct contact with those cultures and traditions, and they strongly influenced my visual vocabulary). My art is one of
many human expressions of such space- the inner sanctuary, the concept of which nurishes emotional and intellectual human
needs in every culture of the world.
